We needed an open/closed sign for the lab.  Within our smartlab the status is available, so an electronic sign made sense, but our door is external., and gets full sun in the mornings.  We decided on an eInk sign, and picked a 3-colour SPI-driven display, connected to our MQTT network with an ESP8266.
